About

Janet Hoffer, DSW, LCSW

I earned my doctorate at Rutgers University in the School of Social Work and I have been in private practice for over twenty-five years working with adults, couples, adolescents and families.  I earned my MSW at Columbia University and a Post Masters Certificate in Individual Therapy at Hunter College School of Social Work.  I earned my certificate in psychoanalysis from The Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of New Jersey where I serve on the Board of Directors and Training Committee as Director of Training and also teach and supervise psychotherapists.  My approach to therapy utilizes Contemporary Psychoanalysis, Attachment Theory, Trauma Theory, Emotionally Focused Theory (EFT), and EMDR (as a Certified EMDR therapist).  Many of the people I work with have complicated histories and families.  They have struggled with relationships and symptoms of one kind or another and come to therapy to share their experiences, often for the very first time in their lives.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Carol Cassidy for her endless patience, and to Michael LaSala, Jeffrey Longhofer, Jerry Floersch, Miriam Jaffe, Becca Klaver, and my DSW cohort for their wisdom and guidance, and, a very special thank you to my husband.
